Drew Roberts fires home his second, and Chesham's third, in the 3-0 win v Dorchester Town: all images courtsey of Trevor Hyde
Before the match Chesham Utd Chairman Brian McCarthy presented Andy Leese and Jon Meakes with mementoes to mark their 500th game in charge. The Ronnie Radford award, presented to the club on the Wembley pitch in May before the FA Cup Final to mark Chesham's giant-killing achievements last season, was then re-presented in front of the home supporters.
With the formalities done, on to the match. Two wins don't make a season, and there will be bumps on the road ahead, but for the second time in five days Chesham got it right both tactically and performance wise to send the Meadow faithful home happy with another convincing victory.
Dorchester arrived at Chesham seeking their first points of the season, and arguably edged control of the first fifteen minutes. Thereafter Chesham grew into the game, took charge, and rarely looked threatened. Strikes from Drew Roberts on 21 and 47 minutes provided a reminder, if any were needed, of why he has been consistently been one of the most reliable and feared marksmen in the Southern Premier League. Chesham's second goal came on 41 minutes, a header from Sam Youngs: his third in two games.
Man of the match was awarded to Drew Roberts, although there were contenders from front to back in a solid all round team performance. The team now prepare for the challenge of a tough away match at Hitchin Town this Monday evening 15th August
Manager Andy Leese's commented:
"Another positive performance yesterday with 3 important points as we tackle this hectic opening spell of games. We picked up where we left off on Tuesday and got our forward players in the game. Drew marked his return with a trademark finish, and after that I felt we controlled proceedings.
"We could have added to the goal tally, but more importantly we saw the game out without any scares"
