Chesham Utd 3 Cambridge City 1

Tuesday 27th September

Chesham Utd propelled themselves to sixth in the table with this second league win in four days, which left visiting Cambridge one off the bottom and pointless in four.

The Lilywhites manager had said before kick off "We can't keep coming back from 1-0 or 2-0 down, we've got to get on the front foot in games" and that wish was answered in some style. Barely two minutes had passed when Benji Crilley slipped, letting a cross in from the right which Cemal Ramadan confidently smashed home, but that was as good as it got for the visitors

Chesham were swift to answer and restored parity via a Ryan Blake shot on 7 minutes. Brad Wadkins gave The Generals the lead after 20 minutes, and Cambridge's job became much tougher just before half time when reduced to 10 men for a high boot.

Chesham had by far the better of the chances in both halves, with Cambridge threats rare, but on a night marked by errors on both sides shots largely went high or wide. An open game was nevertheless good entertainment, and Dave Pearce made it 3-1 on 88 minutes. A full match report will follow as usual on the 1st XI Fixtures and Results page

The team now prepare for Saturdays home FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round tie v Staines Town - be there!

andy leeseManager Andy Leese's commented:

"It was another game where we were not at our best, but we had enough to win the game. I was pleased with the response to conceding an early goal, but we really should have had the game won before we did. We had an attacking line up to test the Cambridge defence, and it worked without being at our best.

"It consolidates our position in the League and we can focus on the FA cup now this week. We need to look at the injury position and see what our options are for the weekend"
