Chesham Utd and Merthyr Town fought out a tight and competitive 1-1 draw at The Meadow. Chances were at a premium but an absorbing game kept the crowd fully involved throughout. The first half was goalless but Merthyr took the lead five minutes after the restart when, in a rare lapse at the back, Chesham were second to the ball and the resulting pass was tapped in by McLaggon for the simplest of goals. With The Generals not quite firing it looked as if the points were heading back to Wales until a great Ryan Blake strike on 83 minutes gave the visiting 'keeper no chance. Chesham then pressed for a winner, but a draw was probably the right result on the day

A full match report will follow via the 1s XI Fixtures and Results page as usual. The team's focus now turns to cup action as they prepare to meet Potters Bar Town twice in a week

andy leeseManager Andy Leese commented:

"it was a hard earned point on Saturday. Merthyr as we predicted, were well organised and will do well this season. We were disappointed with the nature of the goal we conceded, but the players responded well as we made some changes to try and get back in it. It worked, and we could perhaps have taken another chance at the end of the game.

"It leaves us handily placed in the League, although the top 3 show no signs of slipping up"
