Following last year's success when Tom Fouhy and Ben Mooney were both selected for the England Schools FA Under 18s side, we are delighted that our Youth team goalkeeper, Tom Gowans, has made it to the final 32 selection weekend at Lilleshall.
Tom plays in our Youth team and also trains with the 1st team under the watchful eye of goalkeeping coach Rhys Tom. He was released by Luton Town FC after not securing a scholarship at end of season 2011/12 as a 16 year old. He had played at all levels for them for three seasons and signed for Chesham United because of his links with Paul Deverrick. He is studying a two year college course at the Van Dyke School in Leighton Buzzard studying Psychology and Business Studies along with at least six hours of football coaching every week. He has also played for the Bedfordshire County side. Last season he was nominated for the England Schoolboy trials along with Tom Fouhy and Ben Mooney even though he was a year younger than these two lads. Tom progressed well through the trial last year but did not make the 32 players invited for the three day trial at Lilleshall.
However he made a good impression last year, and has this year gone one better and made the final 32 man squad to attend Lilleshall over the weekend of 30th November. He will take part in Trial games before the final 16 man squad will be selected, and all at the club wish Tom well.
