This summer as part of our review of the career pathway for young players at Chesham United, we decided to formalise a relationship we have with Queens School in Watford. They are a Specialist sports and science school, and they have a Sports Academy within their 6th Form. They have about 60 boys in their Football Academy studying A levels and vocational courses, as well as receiving coaching for 10 hours per week. They play games in the Football Conference Youth Alliance in midweek against other colleges and professional/ semi professional clubs. The Head coach is Dave Reddington who has played for Andy Leese in the past, hence the link. Dave is an experienced coach who works for Watford FC and has also worked at Crystal Palace and for the FA in their young England set up.
We have had players come to us via Queens in previous years, namely Lewis Rolfe and Max Farrelly, but this year we have made the link more formal so that the Queens teams play in the Football Alliance under our name. In return we have taken some of their players into our set up to broaden their experience, and to aid their development into senior football. They get to train with the 1st team which further enhances their development. We currently have 5 boys signed and playing in the Reserves, with a genuine chance to play 1st team football.
It is a genuine relationship which benefits both us and Queens. Dave Reddington is especially pleased with the link adding" In Non League football it's hard to find a club that tries to play football the right way. We are delighted that we have found Chesham to enhance our academy students development whilst understanding the transition from youth football to adult".
