Biggleswade 0 - 3 Chesham

Postby Giles » Sat Aug 12, 2017 6:35 pm

Great opening day win by he new look Chesham team wearing a Yellow & Black (half & half) kit with a solid performance with two goals from Victor Osobu and a third by the latest signing this week Alex Cathline.

The opening goal by Osobu came after a slip from a Biggleswade defender let Lewis Toomey through on goal, who low shot came back off the post and set up Victor to score. The second goal coming from a low Oran Swales cross meet by Toomey who's goal bound effect defected back to him of the keeper, squaring the ball to Victor to place into the empty net. Further chances feel to Victor and Lewis to increase the lead, which a third goal coming from substitute Alex Cathline, who's strong run seeing off a 2 defenders and shooting past the advancing keeper.

At the other end, we looked solid not allowing many clear opportunities for Biggleswade to score, except for a penalty being award before half time, which no one aware why when we where 1 up, which Haf saved low to his right. He also pulled off a great long range shot late on tipping the ball over the bar.

Hard to choose a Man of the Match with such strong performances, but Victor gets it, not just for his goals, but also created a number of other chances and was a thorn in Biggleswade defence throughout the game.

Attendance given as 202, didn't seem that many, with a good Chesham following going home happy and looking forward to a tough home game on Tuesday when Banbury visit the Meadow.

It`s always good to kick off the new season by winning our first match and keeping a clean sheet, particularly away from home and this was no exception. There were some good all round performances and although it`s early days, things look reasonably promising. However, there will be much tougher tests ahead than that which was provided on Saturday against what looked at best, a very average Biggleswade team.

Looking forward to to-morrow evening`s match against Banbury and also seeing our new strip. I really hope that we are not going to follow the ridiculous trend of playing all our away games in yellow/black (unless there is a colour clash) as Chesham United are claret & blue - it`s our identity !

To touch upon a previous thread concerning player profiles and it was interesting to note that there were 17 such profiles of our squad in Saturday`s programme...
