Chesham won for the tenth game running in all competitions. This was not a game that will live long in the memory, thanks largely to a strong wind, a hard pitch and an opposition who set out largely to stop Chesham from playing. However two goals either side of half-time made it an ultimately comfortable win.

The starting line-up and bench were unchanged from last Saturday’s game at Cambridge. Chippenham had the wind in their favour in the first half, and in the third minute Joe McClennan’s corner dropped at the feet of Aaron Oakley who stabbed the ball wide. Chesham had shown little in attack, but in the fifteenth minute Toby Little’s clearance eluded the defence and Chris Dillon ran clear to shoot high and wide as the defence closed in. Midway through the half Drew Roberts’ lay-off set up James Potton for a shot that produced an acrobatic save from keeper Ben John. On the half-hour Joe McClennan set up Alan Griffin who shot hurriedly wide. The game became a little tempestuous as both sides struggled in the conditions, but the game changed on 42 minutes when Chesham took the lead. Bruce Wilson’s right-wing corner eluded everyone at the near post and came through to Laurie Stewart who headed home from close range.

With the wind in their favour Chesham took control of the game and added a second goal on 57 minutes, James Potton taking advantage of a missed clearance to run through and chip over the advancing keeper. Chesham kept up the pressure and in the next minute Bruce Wilson shot over after Drew Roberts had had a shot blocked. Midway through the half Chris Dillon shot across goal from out on the right, then the resulting goal kick was headed forward by Scott Thomas and Drew Roberts ran clear to round John and shoot over the bar from a narrow angle. Chesham eased off and Chippenham attempted to get back in the game, their best chance coming after 75 minutes when sub Harley Purnell had a shot blocked and a second attempt fly just wide. After that the visitors toiled away to little effect, and Chesham could have had a third goal five minutes from time when Drew Roberts ignored the unmarked Inih Effiong to his right and fired in a shot that was blocked.
