Chesham made it seven wins in a row with this success against Burnham. A hard bumpy pitch meant that this was never destined to be a classic and all three Chesham goals came from corners, but after a dull first half Chesham managed to play some decent football in the second period.

Both the starting line-up and bench were unchanged. Burnham’s team showed eight changes from the corresponding fixture three months ago. Early in the game Dave Fotheringham found the overlapping Toby Little who shot high over the bar, but Chesham had the boost of a ninth-minute goal when Drew Roberts stole in unmarked to head in Bruce Wilson’s corner at the near post. James Potton then went on a great run on the right which ended with a pull-back that just eluded Drew Roberts. The game then entered a dull phase which ended on 26 minutes when James Potton squared from the right and home keeper Adam Lawrence stuck out a leg to divert Chris Dillon’s close-range effort. On the half-hour Burnham had their only effort of the half, a long-range free kick from Tom Willment that had plenty of power but was always going over. Shortly afterwards came the main talking point of the half, when Lee Togwell appeared to stamp on Dave Fotheringham but escaped with a warning from the referee.

Chesham doubled their lead four minutes after the restart, when another Wilson corner was only part cleared and the ball was blocked close to the line but Chris Dillon netted from close range. Chesham began to relax and play some good football with the home side not posing a threat. Midway through the half Steve Wales replaced Bruce Wilson, who was injured by a tackle that brought a booking for Myles Hippolyte. Wales nearly had an immediate effect when he attempted to catch out Lawrence with a 40-yard free kick, and Lawrence was beaten but the ball clipped the top of the bar. Still Chesham looked the more likely to score, Toby Little dispossessing Richard Jeffrey and finding Drew Roberts who shot straight at Lawrence, then Daniel Brathwaite’s through ball was missed by John Munday which left Roberts clean through but Lawrence spread himself to save. Nine minutes from time Burnham threatened for the first time but Myles Hippolyte shot straight at Shane Gore. Three minutes later Toby Little’s right-wing corner was headed out to Steve Wales, who curled in a perfect cross for Laurie Stewart to glance past Lawrence for his first goal for the club. Two minutes from time Shane Gore was denied a clean sheet on his 200th appearance, when Dave Fotheringham’s attempted clearance was headed out by Darren Purse but Aaron Couch drove the ball high into the net for a consolation for the home team.
