Waitrose Man of the Match in association with the Bucks Examiner: Chris Dillon

Chesham made it five wins in a row and also scored four goals for the second game running. This was an entertaining game in which the visitors played their part, but the difference between the two sides was Chesham’s greater goal threat.

The only change to the side saw Toby Little come in for the injured Daniel Brathwaite. Truro had more possession in the early stages but without producing an effort on goal. On the quarter-hour Chesham lost Scott Thomas who felt the full force of Joe Broad’s boot on his knee, Broad escaping with a warning from the referee. Midway through the half Shane Gore dived to his left to turn away a long shot from Cody Cooke. Chesham’s first effort on goal came on the half-hour, when Steve Wales shot high and wide. However Chesham started to pile on the pressure with Toby Little finding space on the left. On 34 minutes a fine run from Little ended with a pull-back and in the ensuing scramble Drew Roberts shot just over. Two minutes later Little again got to the by-line and his pull-back was side-footed wide of the near post by James Potton. Steve Wales then set up Drew Roberts on the right but his left-foot shot was blocked. However in the next minute Toby Little again got to the by-line on the left, and his ball was controlled and fired in by Chris Dillon for the opening goal. Three minutes later Paul Quinn hesitated over dealing with a through ball and pushed over Drew Roberts in the area as the striker came to challenge. Roberts himself put away the resulting penalty. Chesham were looking comfortable at this stage but in stoppage time Matt Andrew reduced the arrears with a fine 25-yard shot into the roof of the net.

Early in the second half John Kyriacou found Drew Roberts, and his pull-back was controlled by James Potton who shot wide of the near post. However Chesham were back in control of the game and on 52 minutes Chris Dillon ran clear onto a Steve Wales through ball and slotted past keeper Olly Chenoweth to make it 3-1. Three minutes later Steve Wales was also clean through but failed to get enough height on his attempted chip and Chenoweth saved comfortably. Just after the hour mark Toby Little fired in a shot that Chenoweth parried, and Drew Roberts netted the loose ball but was flagged offside. Truro had faded out of the game but on 66 minutes Neil Slateford won the ball in the Chesham area and squared for sub Seb Broomfield to score. The goal breathed new life into the visitors and five minutes later Broomfield was clean through but took the ball too wide, then Broomfield was again in space but took too long and his resulting shot was deflected away. However on 79 minutes Chesham broke away and scored the goal that ended the game as a contest. Chris Dillon stormed down the left and set up Chris Watters whose cross was headed in at the far post by Drew Roberts. Truro had one more effort, a shot from Neil Slateford that was deflected just wide, then Drew Roberts dispossessed Paul Kendall and was held back as he broke clear but the referee gave nothing, presumably because he would have had to send Kendall off if he gave the foul.
