Chesham won a creditable victory against higher-ranked opponents. Oxford finished in the top half of last season's Conference North and are expected to do better this term. The visitors had the best chance of a tight opening half-hour but James Beasant came out to save as Albi Skendi broke away down the visitors' right. Chesham opened the scoring on 36 minutes when Steve Wales crossed from the left touchline and Drew Roberts eluded his marker to hook the ball in at the far post. Chesham could have added to their lead before half-time when Inih Effiong had a free header from Steve Wales' corner but keeper Mark Scott parried. Wales was just off target with a left-foot shot from 25 yards, then Inih Effiong worked a shooting chance but Scott turned the ball away for a corner.

Early in the second half Scott dived to his right to turn away a long-range effort from Steve Wales. Midway through the half Will Green hooked just wide for the visitors, then fellow sub Adam Maadbi forced a fine reaction save from James Beasant. Fifteen minutes from time Bruce Wilson crossed left-footed from the right touchline and Chris Dillon headed the second from close range. Five minutes later Wilson seized on a loose ball and ran to the edge of the area before setting up Dillon who scored the third from fifteen yards. After 84 minutes Oxford scored their consolation when Tom Winters won a 50-50 challenge with James Beasant and tapped the ball into the unguarded net.
