Table-topping Leamington did the double over Chesham with this win. As in the first game Chesham made one defensive error and were punished for it, while at the other end they failed to make the most of the few chances they created against a team that have only conceded four goals in ten league games.
Chesham made only one change to the team that beat Bedford in the FA Trophy, Kieran Allen-Curry coming in for Andy Keepence who for the second time this season had to miss a match because of a family wedding. Chesham went on the attack straight from the kick-off with Danny Burnell feeding Carl Bruce who fired across the face of the goal, then after four minutes Burnell found Dave Fotheringham on the left who cut inside and unleashed a shot that Leamington keeper Richard Morris beat away at his near post. Adam Parker then got his head to Danny Talbot's long free kick but could not keep his header down, but after that the game became a scrappy affair in which the referee decided to take centre stage with a string of unnecessary yellow cards, six in all. Midway through the half Leamington threatened for the only time when a free kick from James Husband bounced around in the box but the ball was eventually cleared from close to the goal-line.
Earkly in the second half John Lawford controlled Mark Lambert's throw, turned and shot over the bar, but it seemed likely that a solitary goal would win the game and it was Leamington who grabbed it on 52 minutes. Ben Mackey robbed Mark Lambert and sent an angled shot goalwards, Richard Hayward parried but Josh Blake won the race to the loose ball and turned it in from close range. Shortly afterwards Husband crossed from the right and Blake hooked the ball narrowly wide from a good position, but thereafter Leamington rarely threatened. Chesham brought on Dom Marsala and went to three at the back, and the move nearly paid off fifteen minutes from time when Marsala combined with Mark Lambert to find John Lawford in the box, and he laid the ball into the path of Carl Bruce but Morris stretched to tip the resulting shot over the bar. Chesham were unable to mount a last-ditch assault on the Leamington goal and only a characteristic turn and shot from Lawford in stoppage time came close to retrieving a point, but Morris was able to watch the ball fly wide of the goal
