Chesham seem to have a problem dealing with the struggling sides at home. Last month they allowed Stourport to secure their only points of the season, and now faced a Berkhamsted side with a record of one point from five games and with no ambition beyond a draw. This they achieved with relative ease as Chesham lacked the resources to break down a determined defence.
Chesham made three changes to the team that beat Henley in the FA Cup, with Andy Keepence and Adam Parker returning, and James Beasant, nephew of Dave and who played in the game at Swindon Supermarine last season on loan from the Watford academy, making his home debut in goal. The pattern of the game was set early on with Chesham controlling the midfield and looking for the through ball to the two strikers. However the only real moment of note came when Phil Turner won a challenge on the left side of the area and shot from an angle across the goal. Midway through the half Berko had their first shot, a long-range effort from Ben Butler that was deflected behind, and started to come into the game more. However it was still a surprise when the visitors took the lead on 37 minutes. Full-back Samir Amadu played the ball down the left for lone striker Lewis Pritchard who held off a challenge and forced Beasant to save at his feet, but the ball ran loose for Andy Mullins to score. Beasant was injured in making the save and after a delay of six minutes was stretchered off and taken to hospital for an X-ray on his swollen knee. Chesham have not had a keeper on the bench this season as Sam Ledger is a capable stand-in, so he took over in goal but was hardly tested as the visitors settled for what they had. In first-half stoppage time there was a rare chance for Danny Burnell who won a challenge on the left and shot narrowly over.
In the second half it was virtually one-way traffic as Berko concentrated on keeping Chesham out. Chesham eventually equalised on 58 minutes when Adam Parker burst ino the area, the ball ran loose and Dave Fotheringham scored with a shot into the bottom corner. The goal had no effect on the visitors' tactics and Chesham spent most of the rest of the game camped in the opposition half, but for all their possession Berko keeper Michael Underwood did not have a save to make. The only noteworthy incidents came when Adam Parker headed Danny Talbot's free kick across goal, and late on Parker's though ball found sub Richard Howard who controlled and shot across the goal. The game ended on a sour note when Danny Burnell, who had been booked in the first half for dissent, was late with a challenge on Underwood and was shown a second yellow card.
