Chesham ensured a day out for the supporters at the end of the season with this win that takes them to the final of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup. Windsor had moved into the play-off zone in the Southern League South and West Division after seven successive wins, but a Chesham side missing four regulars kept them out, although the result was in doubt until John Lawford sealed the win with a remarkable goal six minutes from time.
There were four changes to the side that beat Dunstable on Saturday, with Adam Parker starting a two-match suspension, Sam Ledger and Andy Keepence both missing because of work commitments and Dave Fotheringham rested. Into the team came Michael Sharman, Kieran Allen-Curry, Danny Brown and Simon Ellis. The match was not helped by a strong blustery wind which favoured the side playing towards the cricket ground end, but not as much as on Saturday. Windsor had the advantage in the first half and had the first noteworthy moment when Mark Cooper climbed to meet Jon Case's corner but headed across goal. However it was Chesham who took the lead after ten minutes, when Danny Talbot's right-wing corner was cleared back to him and his second cross to the far post saw Eugene Ofori head into the net under the body of keeper Seb Brown.
The game was fairly even after that but neither side was able to get going in the difficult conditions. Windsor's most dangerous moment came on the half-hour when the wind caught Joe Chandiram's right-wing corner, the ball glanced off the head of Michael Chennels and Jordan Bostock was able to clear off the line. Shortly afterwards Kevin Cotton was only just wide with a 30-yard effort and that was the sum total of the goalmouth action in the first half. After the interval Case was just off target with a 25-yard free kick, then on the hour a through pass by sub Jon Isaac sent Case clear, but as Hayward came out Case pushed the ball too far wide and the chance was lost. At this stage Windsor were on top, but a succession of balls into the box were comfortably dealt with by Richard Hayward and the visitors never threatened again. Twelve minutes from time Windsor's defence misjudged a through ball and John Lawford won a challenge with Seb Brown for the ball which looped up for Mark Burgess to head away. Windsor were still in with a chance until six minutes from time when John Lawford made his impact on the game. Collecting a throw-in with his back to goal some 35 yards out Lawford turned and surprised everyone with a powerful shot, not least keeper Brown who was well beaten at his near post. After that Chesham comfortably saw out time to claim their fourth successive win and third successive clean sheet.
