Chesham finally got some league points on the board at the fourth attempt, with a performance that showed there is still plenty to come. Against a physical but limited Cinderford side, Chesham controlled the game for long periods and although the scoreline was probably a fair reflection of the game, Chesham could have won even more convincingly.
There were two changes to the starting team, Dom Marsala and new signing Adam Parker coming in for Matt Skinner (holiday) and Kevin Cotton (work commitments). With Michael Sharman, Michael Toner and Richard Howard also unable to travel, Chesham's bench had a very youthful look. Chesham took control from the start with Adam Parker providing a strong physical presence just behind the front two. Chesham had an early chance when Danny Talbot's free kick into the area found its way through to Adam Parker whose snap shot flew over, and on 12 minutes Chesham took the lead. Phil Turner's flick-on created space for Dom Marsala on the right whose through ball found Danny Burnell, who held off a challenge and slipped the ball past the keeper.
However the lead was to last only two minutes. Cinderford were awarded a free kick 35 yards out and after Danny Talbot had been booked for not retreating, Nathan Jukes swung the ball into the area and Steve Cowe stole in on the blind side to head past Andy Hall. However Chesham resumed control of the game and a neat move involving Talbot and Dave Fotheringham set up Danny Burnell who controlled and shot just over. On 27 minutes Chesham took the lead again when Dave Fotheringham played in Phil Turner who sprinted clear of the defence and slotted the ball past advancing keeper Matt Bath. In a rare Cinderford raid Andy Hall was forced to back-pedal to tip over a header from Neil Griffiths, but Chesham had a great chance to move clear when Sam Ledger had a free header from Danny Talbot's corner but put his effort over the bar.
In the second half Chesham were still on top and Carl Bruce fired narrowly over from 25 yards, then Phil Turner crossed from the right and Danny Burnell's header was superbly tipped away by Bath. The home team came into the game more but their only real tactic was to belt the ball long in the general direction of their two strikers, and Chesham's defence coped comfortably. Midway through the half Cinderford put together a passing move for virtually the only time in the match and Craig Tait's shot flew across the face of Andy Hall's goal. However Chesham's more measured football paid off with the third goal eight minutes from time, when some sustained pressure told on the home defence and Fotheringham found a gap with a pass through to Burnell who slipped the ball past Bath as he came out.
