Louis Connor 1 Hafed Al-Droubi Chesham produced their best performance since the opening day of the season in this comfortable win. Chesham were the better side in the first half and would have turned round with an interval lead but for a missed penalty. However in the second half Chesham dominated against ten men and could ultimately have won by a bigger margin.

There were five changes to the starting line-up – Kieran Murphy returned after missing Saturday’s game to be present at the birth of his daughter, while Danny Green, Zack Reynolds and David Hutton were recalled and new loan signing Joe Iaciofano came straight into the team in attack. Alex Cathline and Victor Osobu have been released along with Callum Bunting, while Adam Watkins was unavailable and Adam Pepera and Jon-Jo Bates were on the bench. Chesham played with Benji Crilley on the left of a three-man defence, and Zack Reynolds and Jhai Dhillon as wing-backs. Chesham took control of the game from the start, although there was little goalmouth action as the players adjusted to the new formation. On 24 minutes Stratford got into the Chesham area via a long free kick, but Mike Taylor’s shot on the turn was blocked at the expense of a corner. Just after the half-hour Chesham threatened when a long cross from the left from Jhai Dhillon came to Zack Reynolds but his shot and Danny Green’s follow-up were both blocked. However the ball was played back in to Zack Reynolds, who was shielding the ball on the edge of the area when he was shoved in the back by James Hancocks. It was a clear penalty if an unnecessary one to concede, but keeper Louis Connor went the right way to save Lewis Toomey’s kick and Jhai Dhillon’s follow-up. In the next minute Toomey beat the home side’s offside trap and lobbed over the advancing keeper, but the ball curled just the wrong side of the post. At the other end a Will Grocott corner bounced loose in the Chesham area but Hafed Al-Droubi was eventually able to dive on the ball. In first-half stoppage time a fine diagonal cross from Joe Iaciofano was headed powerfully by Lewis Toomey, but Connor stretched to tip the ball over the bar.

In the opening minute of the second half James Hancocks pulled the shirt of Danny Green in the centre circle to earn a second yellow card. Six minutes later Chesham took the lead when neat interplay between David Hutton and Lewis Toomey set up Joe Iaciofano, who slotted the ball past the advancing keeper’s left hand and just inside the far post. Chesham were now in total control and on the hour mark Jhai Dhillon’s right-wing corner came to Kieran Murphy at the far post, Murphy’s header and follow-up effort were blocked and Lewis Toomey eventually forced the ball over the line to register his first goal for the club. His second arrived just five minutes later, converting a fine low cross from David Hutton following a quick move down the left. Chesham still controlled the game but with less urgency with a comfortable lead, and in the last fifteen minutes the home side began to come into the game. A long cross from Lee Thomas was headed back across goal but wide of the near post by Mike Taylor, then Will Grocott cut in from the left and fired across goal and out for a goal kick. Chesham came close again when Shane Bush pulled the ball back from the by-line and Oran Swales’ shot was parried by Connor. In stoppage time Stratford grabbed a consolation goal, when Hafed Al-Droubi took too long to clear and allowed Jazz Luckie the chance to roll the ball into the unguarded net.
