Jhai Dhillon
Hafed Al-Droubi 1 Joe Welch Chesham drop to seventeenth in the table after losing at home for the second time this season. Chesham could and should have got something from the game, particularly after the dismissal of Scott Thomas in the second half, but missed another penalty and have now converted only one of four spot-kicks this season.

Jhai Dhillon and Adam Watkins were restored to the starting eleven, replacing Oran Swales and David Hutton who were on the bench. There was little goalmouth action early on, although Josh Castiglione advanced to the edge of the Chesham area but mishit a chip well wide, then at the other end Joe Iaciofano’s run to the edge of the Royston area ended with the ball coming to Zack Reynolds who sliced a shot wide. In the twentieth minute Jhai Dhillon ran at the visiting defence and fired in a shot that rebounded off the legs of keeper Joe Welch. Towards half-time Lewis Toomey’s shot from a Zack Reynolds cross was blocked, then at the other end Adam Murray headed wide from a Lee Chappell free kick. The half ended with Benji Crilley getting his head to a Jhai Dhillon corner but his effort was blocked.

The course of the game was changed in the 52nd minute when Royston took the lead. A left-wing corner from Castiglione was not cleared and after a scramble John Frendo forced the ball over the line. Four minutes later Jhai Dhillon’s corner was cleared back to him, and Dhillon ran toward the penalty area when he was bundled over by Castiglione. It was a clear penalty if a needless one to concede, but Lewis Toomey’s kick was saved by Welch. Just after the hour mark a free kick was punted forward by Ed Asafu-Adjaye, Chappell headed it across goal to Adam Marriott whose headed looped over Hafed Al-Droubi and into the net for Royston’s second. Shortly afterwards Scott Thomas was shown a second yellow card for throwing the ball away, the fifth player to be sent off against Chesham this season. Chesham immediately halved the deficit, when Danny Green ran at the defence and set up Joe Iaciofano who found the net with a powerful drive from just inside the area. However Chesham failed to launch a late bid for a point, although they had another shout for a penalty when Adam Murray shoved Lewis Toomey as the ball was going out for a goal kick. The referee waited until stoppage time before belatedly booking Welch for continual time-wasting, but it made little difference as the visitors held out comfortably.
