Alex Street 1 Hafed Al-Droubi A single late goal from Joe Iaciofano brought Chesham a surprise win against high-flying King’s Lynn. The omens for this game were not good; the home team had taken 22 points from a possible 24 at home and would have gone to the top of the league with a win, while Chesham had lost on all their previous visits to this ground. However Chesham successfully blunted the home attack and for most of the match looked the more dangerous.

There were two changes to the Chesham team, with Darren Locke and Adam Watkins coming in for Adam Pepera and Oran Swales. The pitch had stood up well to overnight rain, but the game was still a battle with both defences on top. Neither side came close to scoring until the 27th minute, when Jhai Dhillon’s free kick from wide on the left was headed out to Lewis Toomey whose snap shot came back off the bar and the ball was scrambled away. The home side’s main threat came from set pieces, and on the half-hour Sam Gaughran headed over from Michael Clunan’s corner. On 41 minutes Chesham again came close when Lewis Toomey’s crossfield ball found Jon-Jo Bates, and Bates crossed low to Joe Iaciofano whose effort bounced off keeper Alex Street and away. Shortly afterwards Simon Lappin’s free kick was headed goalwards by Gaughran and came off the head of a Chesham defender and over the bar. In stoppage time Leon Mettam found space on the home left and shot from distance, but the ball flew a couple of yards wide.

In the second half the home side began to increase the tempo, but the Chesham defence stood firm. It was not until the 74th minute that Hafed al-Droubi had a serious save to make, pushing away a Leon Mettam effort from the edge of the area. As the game went on the home fans began to become frustrated at their team’s inability to carve out any decent chances, and Chesham took advantage with the game’s only goal on 81 minutes. Chesham won possession inside the King’s Lynn half, and David Hutton threaded the ball through for Joe Iaciofano to run on and lift the ball over the advancing keeper and into the roof of the net. King’s Lynn threw everything forward and Hafed Al-Droubi was forced to dive to push away a free kick from Ryan Hawkins, but Chesham ultimately saw the game out to extend their unbeaten run to seven.
