Hafed Al-Droubi 1 Ross Hampton A late, scrambled goal from Callum Bunting eventually got Chesham back to winning ways after last Saturday’s heavy defeat. The course of the game was changed by two red cards in two minutes just after the hour mark, leaving the visitors blaming the referee for their defeat although their own indiscipline was a major factor.

Kieran Murphy and Jon-Jo Bates both returned to the side after missing the Basingstoke game, replacing Darren Locke and Danny Green. In addition David Hutton and Alex Cathline made their first starts of the season and Callum Bunting earned a recall, with Lewis Toomey and Oran Swales dropping to the bench and Victor Osobu missing through injury. On a warm afternoon neither side created any real chances in a quiet first half. For the visitors Josh Waldren fired a shot past the far post from the left edge of the Chesham area, and Mitchell Weiss set up a shooting chance for Gareth Price who sliced well wide from just outside the area. Chesham replied with a long-range shot from Jon-Jo Bates that flew past the far post, while Zack Reynolds went forward on the overlap but the resulting shot was comfortably saved by keeper Ross Hampton.

Kings Langley began to threaten for the first time in the early stages of the second half. A long shot from Lee Stobbs was turned away for a corner by Hafed Al-Droubi, then Stobbs’ corner was cleared and the ball played back in to Mitchell Weiss whose glancing header was tipped away by Al-Droubi. Gareth Price then broke into the Chesham area but his attempted lob over the advancing keeper was way off target. Chesham came back and a Matt Bevans corner was cleared, David Hutton crossed back in and the ball came to Jon-Jo Bates who shot way over the bar. However the course of the game was changed on the hour mark, when the visitors took exception to a claim for a free kick by Alex Cathline who stumbled on the edge of the visitors’ penalty area. The ball was cleared and both Cathline and Emmanuel Folarin were booked for a clash off the ball which was spotted by the linesman. In the next minute Gareth Price was sent off for kicking out at a Chesham player after a challenge in front of the dugouts. Emotions were running high and two minutes later Gary Connolly brought down Cathline with a challenge that had an element of retribution about it, the referee producing a second red card although a yellow might have been sufficient. Keeper Ross Hampton was then booked for running to the halfway line to argue with the referee. Unsurprisingly the visitors then pulled everybody back and attempted to waste time for the rest of the game. Alex Cathline glanced a header wide from a Jhai Dhillon cross, then Cathline laid the ball back to Danny Green whose shot was tipped away by Hampton. Chesham dominated the rest of the game but showed a lack of confidence and the final ball was often lacking. Late in the game Zack Reynolds crossed from the right, David Hutton controlled and turned the ball goalwards but Hampton dived to save. However two minutes from the end of normal time Oran Swales crossed from the right, Lewis Toomey headed against the bar and in the ensuing scramble Callum Bunting lashed the ball into the net from close range. Suddenly the visitors were forced onto the attack, and Jorell Johnson got his head to a Lee Stobbs corner but Hafed Al-Droubi dived to save.
