Paul White 1 Hafed Al-Droubi Chesham went down to defeat against Kettering whose win took them to the top of the table. Having gone a goal down Chesham’s chances were helped when home keeper Paul White was sent off midway through the first half, but they failed to take advantage and the home side won it with two late goals.

There were five changes to the side that went out of the FA Cup at Needham Market – Benji Crilley, Darren Locke, Jon-Jo Bates, Alex Cathline and Victor Osobu all starting. The home side started strongly and in the ninth minute a long free kick from Ben Milnes could have gone straight into the net but Matt Bevans cleared off the line, Lindon Meikle shooting against the post from the loose ball. Shortly afterwards Hafed Al-Droubi stretched to tip over a shot from Aaron O’Connor, but on 14 minutes O’Connor headed in a near-post corner from Ben Milnes to give the home side the lead. Seven minutes later Chesham won a corner and as the players were jostling in the penalty area, keeper Paul White was shown a straight red card for laying out Victor Osobu apparently with a punch. With no keeper on the bench Brett Solkhon went in goal, and veteran striker Rene Howe dropped back into the centre of defence. However the next action came at the other end, when Hafed Al-Droubi hesitated over a clearance and was dispossessed by Aaron O’Connor and Rhys Hoenes’ shot was cleared off the line by Adam Pepera. Shortly afterwards another Milnes corner found Rhys Hoenes whose header clipped the top of the bar. Chesham finally began to stretch the home defence with a surging run from Victor Osobu which was ended by a fine tackle from Munashe Sundire, then Gary Mulligan attempted to clear a shot from Osobu but only succeeded in diverting the ball onto a post and into the hands of Solkhon. In stoppage time Chesham’s defence misjudged a long clearance from the stand-in goalkeeper which let in Aaron O’Connor, and O’Connor lobbed over Hafed Al-Droubi but Adam Pepera got back to hook the ball off the line.

Seven minutes after the restart Chesham exploited the man advantage, when they were awarded a free kick inside the centre circle. Matt Bevans spotted that Solkhon was way off his line and hit the free kick straight over the keeper’s head and into the vacant net. For a while Chesham had the upper hand and Lewis Toomey crossed to Alex Cathline at the near post, but Minashe Sundire got in a challenge to clear for a corner. On 73 minutes David Hutton mishit a shot wide as the ball fell to him on the edge of the area, but the home team began to come back into the game later on. On 77 minutes Ben Toseland broke out of defence and passed to Rhys Hoenes, Toseland continued his run and shot but Hafed Al-Droubi dived to save. However in the next minute Aaron O’Connor got behind the Chesham defence and pulled the ball back for Matthew Stevens to score at the near post. Chesham pushed forward and Solkhon fumbled a long cross from Oran Swales, and some Chesham fans thought that the keeper carried the ball over the line but the linesman thought otherwise. However in the next minute Kettering broke away, Rene Howe ran into the Chesham area and squared the ball for Aaron O’Connor to score the decisive third for the home side.
