Man Of The Match

Tom Price 1 Harry Isted Chesham moved to within three points of the play-off places after securing their fourth away league win in a row. The scoreline was probably a fair reflection of the match, as Chesham dominated from start to finish against the league’s bottom side.

Ravi Shamsi came into the side in place of Adam Watkins who was missing due to work commitments, while David Hutton swapped places with Oran Swales who reverted to the bench. Chesham were in control of the game from the start, and in the second minute Lewis Toomey’s shot from the edge of the area took a deflection and flew just wide. Seven minutes later Jhai Dhillon’s corner dropped at the feet of Kieran Murphy, but his close-range effort was blocked in a crowded area. Ravi Shamsi then cut inside from wide on the right and fired in a shot that was tipped away by home keeper Tom Price. However Chesham were not to be kept out for long, and in the 21st minute Ravi Shamsi crossed from the right and David Hutton headed in from close range. Four minutes later Shamsi was in an identical position, and this time his low cross was stroked home by Lewis Toomey at the far post to make it 2-0. Three minutes later defender Harry Medway missed a clearance which let in Jefferson Louis, who ran on to stroke the ball past Price but across the face of goal. On the half-hour Gosport had their one effort of the half, but Alfie Lis’s shot was safely held by Harry Isted. However Chesham continued to dominate and David Hutton’s corner was cleared as far as Jefferson Louis, who controlled and hooked the ball wide from the edge of the area.

Chesham were caught out in the third minute of the second half, when Craig McAllister headed in Patrick Suraci’s near-post corner to halve the deficit. However the home side never came close again as Chesham resumed command. Just before the hour mark Jhai Dhillon got round the back of the home defence, and ran along the by-line before being brought down by Alfie Lis. Jefferson Louis tucked away the penalty to restore Chesham’s two-goal advantage. Shortly afterwards David Hutton’s mishit cross from wide on the left came back off the bar, then a Hutton corner ran loose in the home area but Jefferson Louis’ effort was blocked. On 69 minutes Chesham produced a fine flowing move, and Jefferson Louis’ lay-off enabled Lewis Toomey to fire into the net from the edge of the area for Chesham’s fourth. Still Chesham pushed forward and Jhai Dhillon’s long-range effort was turned behind by Price. The resulting corner was taken short, and Dhillon ran to the corner of the penalty area and fired in a shot that ended up in the far corner of the net with the aid of a slight deflection. Chesham should have had another penalty late on when Jon-Jo Bates was tripped by Zak Sharp in the area, but the referee was in charitable mood. Gosport’s miserable night was complete when sub Joel Jackson was carried off, leaving them to play out four minutes of stoppage time with ten men.
