Man Of The Match
Hafed Al-Droubi
Colm McAdden 1 Hafed Al-Droubi Chesham suffered their heaviest defeat in nearly five years, against a Basingstoke side that had lost their first three league games. The game was every bit as one-sided as the scoreline suggests although Chesham had chances to get back into the game early in the second half.

With Kieran Murphy and Jon-Jo Bates away, Darren Locke made his debut in the centre of defence and Victor Osobu returned in midfield. The other change saw Shane Bush swap places with Callum Bunting who was on the bench. The home team had an early opportunity when a mix-up in the Chesham defence let in Aaron Jarvis, who rounded Hafed Al-Droubi but Darren Locke got back to clear. In the next minute Sam Smart broke free on the home right and set up Jarvis who stroked the ball past Hafed Al-Droubi from just inside the area to give the home side the lead. Chesham created their first chance in the tenth minute when Oran Swales broke down the right, the resulting cross was pushed out by Colm McAdden and Shane Bush shot hurriedly over the bar. The next twenty minutes were largely uneventful, although Aaron Jarvis shot wide for the home team and Danny Green was just off-target with a snap shot at the other end. However on 35 minutes Sam Smart broke away down the home left and was brought down by Darren Locke just inside the penalty area. Locke was booked and Ben Wright converted the resulting penalty. Chesham’s defence was still looking vulnerable and Aaron Jarvis broke clear but Hafed Al-Droubi saved, then Charlie Kennedy ran at the Chesham defence and shot just wide. Chesham needed to get back in the game and nearly managed it in stoppage time, when Shane Bush got his head to a Victor Osobu free kick but the ball came back off the bar.

Chesham brought on David Hutton for the second half, and six minutes after the restart his low cross was missed by Dan Bayliss but Lewis Toomey missed the ball completely at the far post. Three minutes later Oran Swales crossed from the right towards the far post, but Victor Osobu failed to make contact with the ball. However Basingstoke were still looking threatening and Sam Smart shot over the bar, then Al-Droubi was forced to dive to turn away another shot from Ben Wright. The home team finally put the game out of Chesham’s reach on 57 minutes, when Ben Wright broke down the right and squared for Aaron Jarvis to tap in. Four minutes later an identical move led to Wright setting up Jarvis to score the fourth. Still the home side poured forward and Jarvis shot over from a good position, then forced Al-Droubi into another flying save. On 74 minutes Charlie Kennedy got to the by-line on the right and pulled the ball back for Sam Smart to net the fifth. By now Chesham looked totally demoralised and the score could have been more embarrassing late on, but Charlie McCann and Aaron Jarvis got into shooting positions only to shoot straight at Al-Droubi. In the final minutes Kennedy tried to beat Al-Droubi at his near post but the keeper dived to turn the ball away, then deep into stoppage time Connor Davies shot high over the bar from the edge of the area with only Al-Droubi to beat.
