Ashlee Jones 1 Niall Cooper Chesham missed an opportunity to make ground on the teams above them with a subdued performance against the division’s draw specialists.

The only change to the team saw Drew Roberts replace Barry Hayles who was on the bench. With the temperature hovering around freezing the pitch was firm but playable. Chesham made the better start and in the fourth minute won a free kick 25 yards from the visitors’ goal, which Drew Roberts hit low as the wall jumped and the ball hit the post and bounced across goal. However shortly afterwards Ashlee Jones had to make a smart reaction save from Charlie Faulkner’s snap shot. At the other end Matt Taylor crossed from the left, Drew Roberts helped the ball on and Brad Wadkins was just unable to convert at the far post. Just after the half-hour mark Mat Mitchel-King was dispossessed and Justin Marsden’s pull-back found Edwin Ahenkorah who hooked the ball against the post. Three minutes later Simeon Tulloch broke clear but was denied by a great saving tackle by Darren Purse, who was injured in the process and was unable to continue after treatment. As half-time approached Ahenkorah broke away only to fire an angled drive across goal, but deep into stoppage time Chesham took the lead. A neat move down the left involving Matt Taylor and Toby Little set up a shooting chance for Sam Youngs, who curled the ball around the keeper and into the net just inside the far post.

In a game of few chances it was a surprise when the visitors equalised on 52 minutes, when Guy Clark overlapped down the visitors’ left and fired in a shot that was partially blocked, and the ball bounced up and over Ashlee Jones and into the net at the far post. Chesham’s defenders were adamant that the ball had bounced in off Clark’s arm and Mat Mitchel-King was booked for his protests. The rest of the game was largely uneventful, not helped by an over-fussy referee. Chesham eventually raised their game for a late surge, but it came to little apart from a couple of long-range efforts that failed to trouble keeper Niall Cooper.
