Chesham United
Redditch United
Man Of The Match
Sam Youngs
Ashlee Jones 1 Bradley Catlow Chesham failed to repeat the fine performance in midweek in a game that only came to life in the second half. After a quiet first half Chesham conceded a bizarre own goal but recovered to take a point thanks to a fine strike from Sam Youngs.

Chesham’s starting line-up was unchanged from the midweek win over Hitchin, the only change being the return of Brad Wadkins on the bench. The first half saw both sides comfortably cancel each other out. Chesham had the best chance of the half, when Dave Pearce crossed from the left towards Ryan Blake at the near post but the ball came through to Drew Roberts whose first-time shot cleared the bar. On the half-hour Redditch were awarded a free kick 30 yards out, but David McDermott’s kick came off the wall and was easily saved by Ashlee Jones. A snap shot from McDermott flew well wide of the Chesham goal and that was the sum total of the action in the half.

Early in the second half Adam Martin headed on a Benji Crilley throw and the ball came to Drew Roberts who again shot over the bar. On 55 minutes Redditch won their first corner which Ahmed Ali took, but Luke Keen missed with a glancing header at the near post. Redditch had started to threaten after half-time but their goal on 63 minutes was a gift, when a misunderstanding between Mat Mitchel-King and Ashlee Jones led to Mitchel-King stabbing the ball past the advancing keeper and into the unguarded net. Chesham began to show greater urgency and Sam Youngs and Drew Roberts combined down the left to set up Dave Pearce but his attempted chip was comfortably saved by Bradley Catlow. Redditch sub Luke Keen was possibly fortunate to stay on the pitch after a foul on Darren Purse, having been booked earlier for catching Dave Pearce with his elbow. However Chesham equalised on 77 minutes when the Redditch defence cleared hurriedly from Dave Pearce, and the ball came to Sam Youngs whose fine dipping shot found the far top corner of the net. Five minutes later Youngs got round the back of the visitors’ defence and squared to Drew Roberts whose shot cannoned away off the legs of Catlow. On a rare breakaway Simeon Cobourne battled his way past Bruce Wilson and made his way into the area, but Darren Purse got back to clear. That was the last of the goalmouth action as both sides were forced to settle for a point apiece.
