Kings Lynn Town
Chesham United
Man Of The Match
Dave Pearce
Alex Street 1 Richard Hayward Chesham’s season came to an end with a defeat that extended the team’s winless streak to ten games. Chesham were the better team in the first half and should have been more than one goal to the good, but faded away after the interval.

Having been an injury doubt during the week Richard Hayward was passed fit to play in goal, but with Benji Crilley injured and Toby Little, Matt Taylor and Alex Ward all unavailable Chesham were only able to name two substitutes. Cameron Hyde and Joe Devaney made their first first-team starts while Danny Talbot played just behind Ryan Blake in attack. The home team had the first moment of note after five minutes, when Conor Marshall shot over after a Michael Clunan corner was headed out, but Chesham took the lead four minutes later. Danny Talbot’s free kick from thirty yards out was saved by home keeper Alex Street, but the ball bounced loose and Joe Devaney’s header squeezed under the keeper’s body and over the line. Shortly afterwards Tom Ward’s header from a Clunan free kick was headed off the line by Brett Longden, but the rest of the half was all Chesham. Dave Pearce and Danny Talbot combined to set up Ryan Blake but Street ran from his goal to block, then Blake headed the ball down to Dave Pearce whose right-foot shot beat Street but was just wide. On the half-hour Ryan Blake crossed from the left, Dave Pearce helped the ball on and Stephan Hamilton-Forbes’ near-post header clipped the top of the bar on its way over. Four minutes later Dave Pearce crossed low from the left and the ball was just cleared away from the onrushing Ryan Blake.

King’s Lynn made a double substitution at half-time and a third a few minutes into the second half, but the initial effect was minimal. Early in the half Ryan Blake broke down the left but his angled drive was parried by Street, then Street was again called into action to block a similar effort from Dave Pearce. However just after the hour mark Michael Clunan lifted a free kick into the Chesham area, Richard Hayward came to collect but was he beaten to the ball by Toby Hilliard whose glancing header bounced on into the net. The home side were boosted by the goal and Ryan Hawkins shot across the face of the Chesham goal from wide on the right. Chesham were still looking dangerous and Adam Martin played the ball forward, Ryan Blake was well offside but left the ball and Danny Talbot ran on to fire in a shot that Street dived to tip away. From Dave Pearce’s corner Adam Martin glanced a header wide, but the home side broke away and Ryan Hawkins tumbled in the Chesham area under minimal contact from Brett Longden. The referee gave a penalty which Clunan converted to put the home side ahead against the run of play. Five minutes later King’s Lynn were awarded a free kick 25 yards out, and Ryan Hawkins shot striaght into the top corner of the net to make it 3-1. Chesham tried to come back with Dave Pearce having a shot blocked by Street after the home defence failed to clear a Danny Talbot free kick, then at the other end Richard Hayward tipped over a free kick from Michael Clunan. As the final whistle neared Toby Hilliard broke clear and rounded Richard Hayward, but took the ball wide and lobbed over the vacant net. The final action of the game came when Ryan Blake’s shot was tipped round the post by Street. As the players left the field at the end of the game, Adam Martin was shown a straight red card for a comment made to the referee.
