Michael Johnson 1 Ashlee Jones Chesham earned a valuable point against local rivals Hitchin. This was game that neither side did enough to win, although Chesham could have stolen the points late on.

Chesham’s starting line-up and subs’ bench were both unchanged. Early on Ashlee Jones had to block a shot from Robbie Burns at the expense of a corner, then in the next minute Jones held a Mason Spence header, but otherwise Chesham were largely untroubled. Midway through the half Dave Pearce’s free kick from wide on the right was tipped away by home keeper Michael Johnson, then at the other end a speculative effort from Liam Brooks curled wide. On the half-hour Benji Crilley’s long throw came to Darren Purse but his effort was blocked. A quiet half ended with a snap shot from distance from Matt Lench which Ashlee Jones tipped over.

Early in the second half Dave Pearce shot just past the far post after the home defence had failed to clear another throw from Benji Crilley, then Ryan Blake seized on a stray back-pass from Lewis Rolfe and shot but Johnson made a good diving save. Hitchin came back into the game and took the lead just after the hour mark, when a left-wing corner was not cleared and was turned into the net at the near post, Liam Brooks claiming the final touch. The home team rarely threatened again as Chesham looked to get back in the game. Sam Youngs headed over from a Crilley throw, then Chesham equalised on 79 minutes when a free kick from Drew Roberts took a slight deflection and flew past Johnson who seemed slow to react. Late in the game Chesham began to stretch the home defence for the first time, Sam Youngs shooting just wide from 25 yards and Brad Wadkins working a shooting chance and forcing Johnson to dive to his left to save. Deep into stoppage time Adam Martin challenged for a Crilley throw and the ball dropped to Drew Roberts whose effort was somehow kept out by Johnson, the ball coming off the goalkeeper’s legs onto the post.
