Kyle Phillips 1 Andrew McCorkell Chesham played their first league game in three weeks looking to make up ground on the teams above them in the table, but went down to Frome in a bad-tempered encounter.

Ashlee Jones was unavailable through work commitments so Andrew McCorkell, who made his debut in the League Cup at Barton Rovers two weeks before, made his first league start in goal. The other two changes saw Stephan Hamilton-Forbes and Drew Roberts replace Matt Taylor and Ryan Blake. Frome were unbeaten in six games and made the stronger start, with Andrew McCorkell forced to save from Jon Davies in the opening minute. Chesham’s first effort came from Stephan Hamilton-Forbes who shot into the side netting, then at the other end Darren Jefferies fired high and wide from out on the left. Chesham started to come into the game more with Sam Youngs shooting low to the right of keeper Kyle Phillips but just wide of the post, then another Youngs effort was blocked for a corner. Just before the half-hour Chesham had the best chance of the half, when Brad Wadkins’ long pass from wide on the left to Drew Roberts who only had the keeper to beat but his shot clipped the top of the bar and went over. At the other end Davies shot just wide, but the home team’s opener was something of a freak. Connor Roberts took a free kick just inside his own half and the ball sailed over the head of Andrew McCorkell and dropped just under the bar. There was a bit of needle in the game and Mat Mitchel-King was provoked into retaliating against Kris Miller in an off-the-ball incident that saw both players booked. Chesham were rattled and Jon Davies took advantage with a run and shot into the net past McCorkell’s left hand to make it 2-0 on 43 minutes.

Chesham started the second half with a long clearance from Andrew McCorkell finding Drew Roberts who shot over from a dangerous position on the edge of the area. Two minutes later Sam Youngs again forced a save from Kyle Phillips. The home team’s Kris Miller was sailing close to the wind after a late tackle left Adam Martin on the ground, whereupon Miller was swiftly substituted and Martin shown a yellow card for protesting about the challenge. Chesham had more of the game in the second half but rarely threatened apart from a 25-yard free kick from Dave Pearce that flew just over. Eleven minutes from time Chesham had their best chance when Dave Pearce sent Barry Hayles clear to side-foot past Phillips but also over the bar. Chesham needed to get back in the game but were looking a beaten side when a rare home attack saw Clayton Green’s shot blocked and the follow-up go well wide.
