Preston Edwards 1 Ashlee Jones Chesham went out of the FA Trophy with a heavy defeat at Ryman Premier side Dulwich Hamlet. In contrast to last week’s FA Cup tie at Peterborough Chesham never got into the game and can have no complaints, apart from the fourth goal which came about as a result of a refereeing error.

There were two changes from the line-up the previous Saturday, with Toby Little replacing the injured Bruce Wilson at left-back and Ryan Blake starting in place of Drew Roberts. The opening stages were fairly even, Dulwich causing problem when a thirteenth-minute corner was not dealt with by the Chesham defence before Darren Purse finally cleared. The home side then started to get a grip on the game with Vas Karagiannis heading over from Nathan Green’s cross. In the next minute Nyren Clunis dribbled into the Chesham box, the ball ran loose and Nathan Green drove it into the net from ten yards. Ashlee Jones was then called into action to save from Karagiannis after another corner was hastily cleared. On the half-hour Chesham threatened for the first time when Benji Crilley’s angled drive was tipped away by keeper Preston Edwards, then Darren Purse headed Dave Pearce’s corner goalwards but Edwards made a fine diving save to his left. However Dulwich broke away and Nathan Green pulled the ball back from the by-line to Vas Karagiannis who shot over. The last action of the half saw Kenny Beaney set up Dumebi Dumaka who shot into the side netting.

In the second minute after the restart Vas Karagiannis’ shot was saved and the ball cleared to the edge of the area, where Dumebi Dumaka completely missed his kick but his second attempt found the corner of the net to make it 2-0. Kenny Beaney then had a shot tipped over by Jones as the home side continued to press. At the other end Matt Taylor shot straight at Edwards from Ryan Blake’s lay-off, but apart from that Chesham rarely threatened. Midway through the half Daniel Carr broke into the area and set up Karagiannis who shot across Jones and into the net for Dulwich’s third. Drew Roberts then clipped the outside of the post with a 30-yard free kick, but Chesham looked like a beaten side. Late in the game Jones got a touch to a shot from Nyren Clunis at the expense of a corner, then in stoppage time Ibra Sekajja shot across goal. As both sides waited for the final whistle Darren Purse played the ball back to Ashlee Jones, who picked it up as he was entitled to do as the ball had come off Purse’s knee. However the referee gave an indirect free kick for handling a back-pass, from which Nyren Clunis eventually shot into the net to round off the scoring.
