Richard Hayward 1 Darren Chitty Chesham are now without a win in five games after this defeat by the league leaders. After conceding a soft goal in the second minute, Chesham never looked like getting anything from the game as their season fizzles out.

New joint manager Danny Talbot began his fourth spell as a player in place of Brett Longden, with Benji Crilley at right back and Adam Martin in the centre of defence. Against a team that have not lost in twenty league games Chesham could ill-afford to concede in the second minute, but a Matt Jones corner on the visitors’ right was touched on by Dave Pratt and the ball squeezed past Richard Hayward into the net at the near post. Chippenham made it 2-0 eleven minutes later when another Matt Jones corner was headed in by the unmarked Will Richards. Two minutes later Chesham pulled a goal back when a Benji Crilley throw was headed out, the ball came to Ryan Blake on the edge of the area and his shot squirmed under the dive of keeper Darren Chitty and into the net. However on 23 minutes Chippenham restored their two-goal lead, when Will Richards fell under an innocuous-looking challenge on the edge of the area and Jake Andrews put away the resulting penalty. On the half-hour Dave Pratt had a golden chance to score the visitors’ fourth but lobbed over the bar when clean through. Chesham began to come into the game in the run-up to half-time, and another Benji Crilley throw came through to Matt Taylor whose close-range effort was acrobatically saved by Chitty. The keeper also did well to dive to turn away a shot from Danny Talbot after a shot from Dave Pearce had been headed away by a defender.

Brett Longden replaced Matt Taylor at the interval, with Benji Crilley switching to the centre of defence and Adam Martin moving forward into midfield. In the second minute of the second half Richard Hayward dived to parry a shot from Jake Andrews, but after that the game entered a quiet spell. Midway through the half a Danny Talbot corner found Benji Crilley whose header was blocked, and Crilley hooked the loose ball across the goal and out for a goal kick. Three minutes later Talbot broke forward and set up Ryan Blake, whose shot beat Chitty but flew just wide of the far post. Richard Hayward then made a good save to keep out a long-range shot from Jake Andrews, but Chesham then produced the best move of the match which ended with Chitty anticipating well to save Ryan Blake’s header. Two minutes later Jake Andrews seemed to have done all the hard work in rounding Richard Hayward, but could only shoot wide with the goal gaping. As the game drew to a close Pratt missed another great chance when sent clear, but lobbed the ball tamely wide. At the other end Ryan Blake got to the by-line on the left and set up Dave Pearce whose angled drive flew just over. After that Chippenham were content to waste time until the final whistle, although for a long time the result had not been in doubt.
