Ashlee Jones 1 Alex Tokarczyk After Tuesday’s 6-0 win over Hayes & Yeading, Chesham made it a double with a comprehensive win over the other team relegated from the National League South. At half-time the game was still in the balance with Chesham having a narrow lead, but a strong second-half performance saw Chesham run out convincing winners.

The starting line-up was unchanged, with Stephan Hamilton-Forbes back on the bench after three weeks out. There was little in the game until the eighteenth minute, when the visitors were awarded a free kick 30 yards out and Nana Owusu’s shot beat Ashlee Jones but the ball came back off the post. Chesham began to stretch the visitors’ defence and Ryan Blake dispossessed Robert Atkinson and ran on to fire in a shot that keeper Alex Tokarczyk saved low to his right. In the next minute Sam Youngs’ shot was parried by Tokarczyk and Dave Pearce’s follow-up blocked by Joe Gater. In the 32nd minute Dave Pearce crossed back in after a corner was cleared and Darren Purse headed on, possibly with the aid of a push and Brad Wadkins netted at the far post. Late in the half Sam Youngs was booked for bringing down Sam Deadfield, but this time Owusu’s free kick was straight at Ashlee Jones.

Five minutes after the restart Dave Pearce took a free kick on the right touchline to the far post, where Darren Purse’s header bounced away off Tokarczyk for a corner. Chesham were starting to stretch the Basingstoke defence, and on 53 minutes Brad Wadkins’s pass sent Sam Youngs away to square the ball for Drew Roberts to tap in for Chesham’s second. Four minutes later Roberts’ long-range shot crashed against the post with Tokarczyk well beaten. Basingstoke were looking like a beaten side and on 71 minutes Ryan Blake’s cross hit the raised arm of Joe Gater in the area but the referee waved play on, and seconds later Brad Wadkins pulled the ball back from the by-line and Drew Roberts made it 3-0 with a neat finish into the far corner. Chesham eased off and Nana Owusu’s powerful shot was beaten away by Ashlee Jones at the expense of a corner. Chesham brought on Barry Hayles, and three minutes later Benji Crilley crossed for Hayles to head over the bar. However four minutes later Hayles’ low shot was saved but not held by Tokarczyk and Sam Youngs tapped in the loose ball for Chesham’s fourth. Basingstoke tried for a consolation but Richie Whittingham’s shot was well held by Ashlee Jones. In stoppage time Sam Youngs crossed from the right, and Barry Hayles laid the ball off for Brad Wadkins who shot across the face of the goal. The game ended with another long-range effort, this time from Aaron Redford but Ashlee Jones dived to his left to save.
