Richard Hayward 1 Jack Harding Banbury completed their second win in five days over a Chesham side whose play-off hopes have disappeared after a gruelling six-week run of twelve games that have yielded only 11 points.

Curtis Ujah returned after missing the last seven matches through injury, replacing Darren Purse who has left the club. Brett Longden also returned after injury which meant a return to a four-man defence, while Cameron Hyde and Kemani Murray both made their league debuts as second-half substitutes. Banbury took control of the game early on but rarely stretched the Chesham defence, and it took a set-piece goal to give the visitors the lead on 25 minutes. Tom Winters’ free kick from wide on the left was headed in by Ricky Johnson. Four minutes later defender Luke Carnell turned in a Winters corner at the near post to make it 2-0. Richard Hayward then dived to his left to keep out a shot from Zac McEachran, then Chesham threatened for the first time but keeper Jack Harding denied Sam Youngs with a fine diving save.

Early in the second half a Tom Winters corner was headed out to Carnell whose effort hit a defender and bounced away for another corner. Chesham then had their best spell of the match and a neat move down the left ended with Ryan Blake just unable to get on the end of a low cross from Dave Pearce. However just before the hour mark Banbury broke away, Curtis Ujah miskicked an attempted clearance against his own post and Ricky Johnson should have scored from the loose ball but could only hit the same post. Midway through the half Banbury sub Manny Duku broke away but could only lob over the bar as Richard Hayward came out. On 75 minutes Duku again broke away and this time squared to Ricky Johnson, who shot past Hayward for Banbury’s third. After that both sides were content to play out time, but in the last minute of normal time Sam Youngs forced Harding to stretch to keep out a 30-yard drive. In stoppage time Duku broke away and rounded Richard Hayward only to take the ball too far wide, but Duku succeeded in setting up Sam Humphreys to score a fourth with a shot that was deflected and looped over Hayward and into the net.
