Shane Gore 1 Andrew Wilton Chesham finally made it three league wins in a row, but had to do it the hard way against a St Neots side who have now gone nine league games without a win. At half-time it looked as if Chesham would make the most of their man advantage, but failed to do so and it was only after the numbers had been levelled up that Chesham clinched the win.

There were two changes to the starting line-up, Joe Gater making his first start in place of George Casey whose loan period has expired, while Sam Youngs replaced Adam Martin who was away. Chesham looked to put the visitors’ defence under pressure early on and Ryan Frater was booked for a deliberate handball to prevent a quick breakaway. At the other end Tom Meechan’s pace was causing problems for the Chesham defence, and on 14 minutes Nick Beasant got back and dispossessed the league’s leading goalscorer with the aid of a solid challenge that some referees may have seen as a foul. Chesham won a couple of corners, from one of which Dave Peare crossed and Curtis Ujah headed over. However there was little in the game until Meechan outpaced the Chesham defence and ran on to Lee Clarke’s through ball to put the visitors ahead. Five minutes later Matt Mitchell-King brought down Barry Hayles who needed treatment after taking an accidental blow to the face. The referee seemed to be about to show Mitchell-King a yellow card but produced a red, apparently not for the facial injury but the original challenge which he deemed a stamp. Chesham then dominated the rest of the half, and Ryan Blake broke clear to be denied by keeper Andrew Wilton, and from the follow-up Bruce Wilson shot from distance but Wilton got down to his left to save. After 44 minutes a Chesham attack was cleared by the visiting defence, Nick Beasant broke forward and fired in a shot from 40 yards that Wilton could not hold and Ryan Blake drove the ball into the roof of the net to equalise.

Early in the second half Sam Youngs headed just over from Matt Taylor’s cross, Ryan Blake’s low cross-shot cannoned off a defender and Joe Gater shot wide after meeting Dave Pearce’s corner at the far post. It seemed only a matter of time before Chesham scored, but St Neots weathered the storm. On 53 minutes they nearly took the lead in bizarre circumstances, when Bruce Wilson’s clearance hit Ben Jones and Shane Gore had to dive to turn the ball wide of the near post. Meechan then drove wide of the far post from a Ryan Hawkins corner, then at the other end Toby Little’s low cross was turned over the bar by Ryan Blake although the last touch seemed to be off a defender. On 69 minutes the game became 10-a-side when Curtis Ujah blocked off Meechan on the left touchline and was shown a second yellow card. However Joe Gater switched to the centre of defence, Ashley Smith came on and the move paid immediate dividends. Smith broke down the right and set up Ryan Blake, who crashed a shot in off the underside of the bar to give Chesham the lead for the first time. Three minutes later another right-wing move ended with Barry Hayles having a shot blocked, and the ball came to Bruce Wilson who let fly but Wilton stretched to turn the ball away. However on 80 minutes Chesham again broke down the right, Dave Pearce cut in and shot but Wilton parried, but this time the ball fell for Ashley Smith to make it 3-1 with a low drive across the keeper from the edge of the area. That was the last serious action in the game, although the referee got in on the act with a couple of cheap yellow cards late on.
