Jose Veiga 1 Shane Gore Chesham’s poor away form continued with another defeat, but this was a performance that underlined that there is little to choose between them and the leading teams. For most of the game both teams cancelled each other out, until a late penalty gave the homeside the points.

Sam Youngs started against his former club in place of Stephan Hamilton-Forbes, in the only change to the team. The pattern of the game was set early on, with both teams attempting to play decent football on a poor pitch but with few opportunities at either end. Early on a Matt Taylor long throw caused problems in the home area, Curtis Ujah’s shot was blocked and Sam Youngs’s follow-up effort was deflected wide. Shortly afterwards home keeper Jose Veiga came out to collect a Toby Little through ball, but Will Richards tried to head away and the ball fell to Sam Youngs whose shot was saved by Veiga. Midway through the half Veiga saved Dave Pearce’s angled drive, while the home side’s only effort of the half came from Max Loveridge, whose long-range shot was held by Shane Gore.

Early in the second half Redditch pressurised the Chesham defence for the only time in the game. George Carline’s effort was blocked on the line after Chesham failed to clear a corner, then Jamey Osborne ran to the edge of the area only to shoot high and wide. Chesham then lost Joe Gater who was suffering from a dead leg, so Nick Beasant came on with George Fenton switching to the right side of the defence. Shortly after the hour mark a Dave Pearce corner came off Veiga onto Curtis Ujah and could have gone anywhere, but the ball was cleared. As the game went into the last ten minutes Chesham looked the more likely to break through, and Veiga produced a double save to keep out Sam Youngs’ shot and the follow-up from Barry Hayles. Five minutes from time Chesham were awarded a free kick on the edge of the home area, and Toby Little’s effort had Veiga beaten but came back off the crossbar. The home side had posed little threat, but four minutes from time George Carline ran down the home left and was brought down by George Fenton on the edge of the area, Ashley Sammons converting the penalty. Deep into stoppage time Chesham went on the attack, and Matt Taylor’s shot took a deflection and bounced just over the bar.
