Man Of The Match
Nick Beasant
Shane Gore 1 Nick Hutchings Chesham ensured that there was no hangover from their FA Cup exploits, as a fine second-half performance brought victory over league leaders Poole Town.

Chesham continued with a line-up of three central defenders, George Fenton replacing the injured Laurie Stewart, while Adam Martin and Kelvin Bossman returned after being cup-tied on Saturday. Sam Youngs also started with Bruce Wilson missing the match through injury, and Dave Pearce and Brad Wadkins on the bench. In the second minute a Sam Youngs corner was cleared as far as Toby Little, whose shot was tipped behind by keeper Nick Hutchings. However that was the sum total of the goalmouth action until the 20th minute, when Matt Taylor took a long throw on the right and the ball came to Nick Beasant on the left edge of the area, and Beasant had his ankles clipped by Lewis Tallack for a penalty. With Dave Pearce on the bench Kelvin Bossman took the kick and converted with ease to give Chesham the lead. However Poole were level within four minutes, as George Fenton brought down Marvin Brooks 30 yards out, and Luke Burbidge’s free kick deflected off the end of the Chesham wall and into the far corner of the net. Poole shaded the rest of the half but failed to test the Chesham defence.

However the second half was a different story. In the third minute after the restart Curtis Ujah got on the end of a Sam Youngs corner and Lewis Lindsay’s hurried clearance went just wide of his own goal. The resulting corner was cleared as far as the edge of the area, and Chesham’s players and supporters yelled for a handball just inside the box but the referee somehow gave a free kick the other way. Chesham were now well on top, and keeper Hutchings had to be alert to save a Kelvin Bossman shot and a Curtis Ujah header. Sam Youngs’ long-range effort flew just past the post, then Toby Little broke down the left and found Ryan Blake who shot just over from the edge of the area. Midway through the half another fine move saw Toby Little cross from the left, Hutchings dived and tipped the ball into the path of Nick Beasant who netted but was flagged offside. Poole came back with Jamie White shooting low to Shane Gore’s right but the keeper tipped the ball behind. On 73 minutes Chesham made a double substitution which paid immediate dividends, Ryan Blake pulling the ball back from the right to Dave Pearce who scored with his first touch of the ball. Five minutes later Matt Taylor ran at the visiting defence, and was eventually floored by a combination of Jamie Whisken and Carl Pettefer. This time Dave Pearce took the penalty, and also netted with ease to put Chesham 3-1 up. Late in the game Shane Gore dived to turn away a shot from Poole sub Ollie Davis, and Chesham could have added a fourth deep into stoppage time but Hutchings blocked Kelvin Bossman’s shot.
