Shane Gore 1 Tony Breeden Chesham produced some of their best football of the season to brush aside another of the promotion chasers. Boosted by two early goals Chesham played some confident flowing football, wrapped the game up with a third early in the second half and eventually held on after a few scares at the other end.

Chesham were unchanged from Saturday’s win over Chippenham. The game kicked off ten minutes late after one of the match officials was delayed en route to the ground. Early on Leamington’s Ben Mackey shot towards the near post but Shane Gore dived to his left to save. However Chesham took the lead in the sixth minute when Jamie Tank headed Adam Martin’s through ball into the path of Sam Youngs, who fired in a low shot just past Breeden’s left hand and inside the post. Five minutes later the ball was played into the visitors’ area, Ryan Blake nodded on and Sam Youngs headed over Breeden and into the net to make it 2-0. Two minutes later Adam Martin’s long throw was headed on by Curtis Ujah and Ryan Blake’s header was tipped over by Breeden. Chesham relaxed and stroked the ball around confidently but only came close once more in the half, when Sam Youngs glanced an Ashley Smith cross goalwards but Breeden saved. Leamington’s frustration showed in first-half stoppage time when manager Paul Holleran was sent to the stands for the rest of the game.

Early in the second half Jamie Tank got his head to a Lee Moore corner, but Shane Gore saved and held on to the loose ball. Chances were coming at both ends as another Adam Martin throw came to Stephan Hamilton-Forbes who could only head over the bar. In the next minute Lee Moore broke clear but Shane Gore made a great save to block and the ball came off Moore for a goal kick. However it was Chesham who finally took one of the chances on offer, when Ryan Blake dispossessed a visiting defender who was trying the let the ball run out for a goal kick, and Blake ran on to set up Dave Pearce who controlled and shot into the net from close range. Adam Martin’s shot was then saved by Breeden, and Dave Pearce had another shooting chance but Breeden produced a fine diving save. Leamington desperately needed to get back in the game, and on the hour mark Lee Moore’s shot was saved by Shane Gore and the loose ball came to Courtney Baker-Richardson whose shot was blocked by Nick Beasant. In the next minute Richard Taundry’s free kick from 30 yards out flew just wide of the post. Baker-Richardson then had a great chance from the edge of the area but shot tamely wide. Chesham were still looking to get forward and Breeden was again called into action to save from Dave Pearce and Ryan Blake. After 82 minutes Kelvin Bossman broke clear but Breeden produced a smart save, then an even better one to keep out Ryan Blake’s follow-up. As the game moved towards its conclusion Shane Gore saved from Courtney Baker-Richardson, then Rob Ogleby broke clear but Shane Gore blocked the first effort and the follow-up flew over the bar for a goal kick although Gore seemed to have got the last touch. Late in the game Leamington were denied even a consolation when Shane Gore produced another great save to keep out a Jamie Tank header and the ball was scrambled away.
