George Legg 1 Paul Strudley This was a game that was eventful, but not necessarily for the quality of football on offer. Chesham looked to be on their way to three points against a Hungerford team reduced to nine men and with an outfield player in goal, but a last-ditch effort from Hungerford saw them snatch a draw.

After Saturday’s defeat at Cirencester Chesham made four changes, two enforced following injuries to Ashley Smith and Barry Hayles. Tommy Fletcher started at right-back and Immanuelson Duku in attack, while George Legg was preferred to Shane Gore in goal and Ash Fongho came in at left-back with Toby Little pushed further forward in place of Dave Pearce. However straight from the kick-off Hungerford went forward and Sam Youngs conceded a free kick on the Chesham right, which was taken low and touched in at the near post by Mike Jones to give the visitors the lead after just 90 seconds. Chesham looked stunned by the setback and struggled to get back into the game. However midway through the half visiting keeper Paul Strudley came out of his goal to clear, but Immanuelson Duku beat him to the ball and a desperate late lunge by Strudley brought Duku down. Although it was not a clear goalscoring opportunity, it was a wild challenge which the referee decided was worthy of a red card. Striker Harry Goodger came on as substitute to take over in goal, and Toby Little’s free kick into the area caused a scramble in which Sam Youngs had a shot blocked. However Chesham failed to test the stand-in keeper again until stoppage time, when a Tommy Fletcher ball into the area caused another scramble until Goodger eventually dropped on the ball.

Chesham brought on Dave Pearce at half-time with Ash Fongho switching to right-back in place of Tommy Fletcher, then Fongho was replaced by Ben Ford. Hungerford sat back to protect their lead, and shortly after the hour mark Ryan Blake tested Goodger with a curling shot which the stand-in tipped over. The resulting corner was taken short and Sam Youngs fired in a shot that Goodger held. On a rare break Hungerford’s Diak John broke forward but George Legg tipped his effort round the post, but otherwise it was all Chesham. The pressure eventually told after 69 minutes, when a corner was partly cleared and Bruce Wilson drove in a shot from the right-hand edge of the area that flew into the net at the far post. Three minutes later Chesham went ahead, when Ryan Blake controlled the ball on the right and the ball came through to Nick Beasant who drove the ball low into the net from just inside the area. Nine minutes from time Ryan Blake was fouled and kicked while lying on the ground by James Rusby who was rightly sent off. However Hungerford had no choice but to push forward and nearly equalised but George Legg managed to tip away a shot from Mike Jones. Four minutes from time Chesham broke away and had four men queuing up to score but Ryan Blake shot straight at Goodger. Hungerford immediately broke away down the left and sub Dean Stow slipped the ball past George Legg to equalise. There was still time for Chesham to attempt to find a winner, but Ryan Blake volleyed over and Curtis Ujah had a shot that cannoned away off the legs of Goodger.
