Denzal Gerrar 1 George Legg Chesham again paid the penalty for conceding an early goal, as they went down to their fourth away defeat of the season. After drawing level in the second half and looking in control of the game, Chesham conceded against the run of play and the home side clinched the game with a breakaway close to the end.

There were three changes to the starting eleven from the FA Cup win at Paulton on Saturday, as Ashley Smith was ruled out with injury, Toby Little was not fit enough to start and Sam Youngs was away. With Barry Hayles still not recovered from injury and Curtis Ujah still not fully fit, Ash Fongho, Stephan Hamilton-Forbes and Brad Wadkins started. Chesham conceded even earlier than against Hungerford a week before, as there were barely 80 seconds on the clock when Histon broke and the ball was crossed to the unmarked Jordan Nicholson who had time to control and shoot past George Legg into the roof of the net. Having conceded so early it was not surprising that Chesham had the better chances in the rest of the half. Ben Ford’s shot took a slight deflection and flew just wide, Matt Taylor pulled the ball back to Ryan Blake who missed his kick, then Nick Beasant headed just over from Dave Pearce’s corner. In a rare Histon attack Sam Ives had a shooting chance but failed to trouble George Legg, but Chesham came back with Ryan Blake attempting to beat Denzel Gerrar at his near post but the keeper stuck out a foot to turn the ball behind. As Chesham pushed forward Histon occasionally looked dangerous on the break, and shortly before half-time Josh Nicholson set up Josh Oyinsan who shot high and wide.

Chesham could have conceded after 40 seconds of the second half but Matt Meacher shot across goal from wide on the right. At the other end Ryan Blake shot over following a cross from Ash Fongho, but Chesham had a let-off in the next minute when Nick Beasant fell awkwardly after an aerial challenge, George Legg saved from Matt Meacher and the ball ran to Luke Trotman who shot over from the edge of the area. Still Chesham looked the more dangerous, Brad Wadkins working a shooting chance and firing just wide, and Ryan Blake shooting straight at Gerrar from a good position. Again Chesham were caught on the break, Luke Trotman crossing low to Jordan Nicholson who lifted the ball over the bar from twelve yards. At the other end Matt Taylor then crossed to sub Immanuelson Duku whose header was saved low to his left by Gerrar. Chesham finally broke through after 64 minutes when Gerrar rushed from his defence to clear, but lost the ball to Ryan Blake and Dave Pearce ran on to score past the defender on the line. Chesham still pushed forward and Immanuelson Duku and Brad Wadkins both missed half-chances, then Wadkins set up Dave Pearce whose shot beat Gerrar but was just wide. However Chesham were again caught on the break on 76 minutes, when Ben Tilney crossed to the unmarked Josh Oyinsan whose header beat the advancing George Legg to restore Histon’s lead. Four minutes later George Legg dived to his right to save from Nick Freeman, then Chesham went straight up the other end but Immanuelson Duku could only head Dave Pearce’s cross wide of the near post. In the 89th minute Chesham won a corner which was cleared leaving only Ash Fongho against three home players, and eventually Sam Ives scored with a low shot after Jordan Nicholson’s effort came back off the post.
