Frome Town

Chesham United
Man Of The Match
Adam Martin
Darren Chitty 1 Shane Gore Chesham looked to be on their way to a victory with a controlled performance in atrocious conditions, but the age-old problem of playing against ten men led to a Frome fightback to clinch a replay.

Bruce Wilson returned after missing the midweek game at Kettering, replacing the injured Toby Little, while Ash Fongho started in defence in place of Curtis Ujah who was at an awards ceremony. The other changes saw Barry Hayles and Brad Wadkins start in place of Matt Taylor and Kelvin Bossman. There was a strong wind blowing straight down the pitch, which Frome had in their favour in the first half. Early on the home team had a chance when a long ball forward found Tyler Sibbick who had more time than he thought and shot wide with only Shane Gore to beat. Chesham’s first moment came when a Sam Youngs corner was headed over by Brad Wadkins, then two minutes later Chesham took the lead. Adam Martin’s ball forward was controlled by Ryan Blake, who laid it off into the path of Sam Youngs who fired low into the corner of the net from the edge of the area. At the other end Mitchell Page was just wide with a shot on the turn, but Chesham had the better chance when Ashley Smith’s cross was not dealt with and Barry Hayles’ first-time shot produced a fine save from Chitty.

With Chesham’s defence looking untroubled and the wind in their favour in the second half, the game became a quiet affair with little goalmouth action. However Jordan Walker was booked on the hour mark for a foul on Sam Youngs, then four minutes later Walker bundled over Bruce Wilson and was shown a second yellow. Frome had also looked more lively since the introduction of James Fitzgibbon, who found space on the home right and set up Ricky Hulbert for a shot that rolled past the far post. Three minutes later a scramble in the Chesham area saw the referee award a penalty for a trip on Mitchell Page, but Darren Jefferies’ weak spot-kick was comfortably saved by Shane Gore. However two minutes after that another goalmouth scramble saw Chesham unable to clear their lines and eventually Ricky Hulbert netted from close range to equalise. However the home side never threatened again and Chesham came closer to scoring late on. Bruce Wilson’s free kick caused a scramble in the home area but the ball was eventually cleared, then Adam Martin broke forward and shot but the ball was cleared by Connor Roberts. In the second minute of stoppage time Kelvin Bossman’s lay-off set up Dave Pearce who broke clear but Darren Chitty blocked the resulting shot.
