Shane Gore 1 Jamie Head A burst of three goals in six minutes just after half-time effectively decided this game as Chesham beat a Dunstable side in the play-off positions. In contrast to Chesham’s away form, this was the sixth home league win in a row, although the first of those was against Redditch nearly four months ago.

Curtis Ujah returned after suspension in place of Nick Beasant who was on the bench, while Sam Youngs was forced off in the 96th minute at Dorchester after suffering a dead leg, so Matt Taylor started in midfield. Before the game Dunstable were presented with the award as the Southern League team of the month for December and were on a run of eight games without defeat, although seven of those games were at home. The visitors came close early on, when Danny Talbot’s 30-yard free kick hit the post and Steve Wales hit the rebound over the bar. In the tenth minute Chesham lost Adam Martin to a knee injury, to be replaced by Stephan Hamilton-Forbes. Chesham were holding out against the visitors’ experienced attack but were making little headway at the other end, until a farcical own goal on 26 minutes gave Chesham the lead. Dave Pearce’s left-wing corner came to the near post, keeper Jamie Head and Howard Hall got in each other’s way, and the ball ended up in the far corner of the net for an own goal although it was difficult to tell who had got the final touch. However the lead was to last only two minutes. Steve Wales and David Keenleyside combined, Joe Gater missed an interception and Danny Talbot curled a right-foot shot from the left edge of the area into the far top corner of the net. Late in the half Dave Pearce seized on a loose ball, weaved his way through the Dunstable defence but shot wide of Head’s left-hand post.

Two minutes after the restart Chesham retook the lead following another corner. This time Pearce took the kick from the right and Joe Gater’s far post header went in off the underside of the bar. Three minutes later Matt Taylor got to the by-line on the left, Dave Pearce collected the ball and squared for Curtis Ujah to make it 3-1 from close range. Three minutes later Shane Gore dived to turn the ball away after Steve Wales touched on a left-wing cross, but in the next minute Chesham scored their fourth. Matt Taylor broke clear down the right and shot across the keeper and into the net at the far post. Shortly afterwards there was an ugly confrontation after Steve Wales escaped with a yellow card for a challenge that left Matt Taylor in a heap. However both sides got back to concentrating on the game, and Danny Talbot could have reduced the arrears from Howard Hall’s pass but Shane Gore produced a fine reaction save. The visitors never threatened again and Chesham had chances to increase the margin of victory. Jamie Head took a free kick from wide on the visitors’ right but miskicked straight to Ryan Blake, who controlled but shot hurriedly high and wide as the keeper hurried to get back. On 76 minutes Head attempted to clear from a back-pass, but lost possession to Ryan Blake whose attempt to tap the ball into the empty net from a narrow angle ended up clipping the near post and rolling along the goal-line. However shortly before the end of normal time Blake broke clear, rounded Head and tapped in to complete the scoring.
