Shane Gore 1 Kent Kauppinen Chesham made it six games unbeaten with this win over promotion-chasing Chippenham. Chesham were a goal to the good and looking comfortable when the dismissal of Jon Beeden in first-half stoppage time effectively put paid to the visitors’ hopes.

Chesham’s team showed two changes from the reverse fixture last Tuesday, Ashley Smith returning in place of Joe Gater, while Barry Hayles replaced Kelvin Bossman who was originally in the team but had to dash off when his wife went into labour (she later gave birth to a healthy baby girl). Chesham played some decent football from the start, but it was not until 16 minutes that visiting keeper Kent Kauppinen made a save, holding on to Sam Youngs’ shot on the turn then diving on the ball after Barry Hayles’ pull-back came off Youngs. Chesham took the lead midway through the half when a neat move down the left saw Dave Pearce pick out the overlapping Toby Little, and Little’s cross found Stephan Hamilton-Forbes who eventually back-heeled the ball into the net for his first goal for the club. Six minutes later a mistake by Mark Preece let in Ryan Blake on the left, and Blake shot from an angle past Kauppinen but also past the far post. Four minutes from half-time Chippenham’s Chris Allen took a left-wing corner which was missed by everybody including Mark Preece at the far post. That was as good as it got for the away side, and in first-half stoppage time a clearance from Stephan Hamilton-Forbes found Ryan Blake just inside the Chippenham half. Blake outpaced Jon Beeden and broke clear, only for Beeden to run thirty yards to push Blake over on the edge of the area. It was a clear red card and although the free kick came to nothing, Chippenham were always going to be up against it from then on.

Chippenham brought on an extra striker in Ollie Taylor for the second half, but to little avail as Chesham were able to relax and pass the ball around. Early in the half Toby Little floated a chip just past the far post, than just after the hour mark Dave Pearce and Toby Little combined down the left and Ryan Blake’s chip was just wide. Midway through the half Greg Tindle headed a Matt Jones corner across goal, then at the other end a Dave Pearce corner just eluded Barry Hayles at the far post. As the game entered the final ten minutes Sam Youngs controlled and turned but his shot was comfortably saved by Kauppinen. After 87 minutes Chippenham had their one chance of the game, when Ollie Taylor’s through ball set up Harry Grant who shot past Shane Gore but tamely past the far post.
