Shane Gore 1 Zac Barrett Chesham failed to build on last Tuesday’s fine win at Weymouth, going down tamely to a Cambridge City side only just above them in the table. Chesham never looked like winning the game, and were a beaten side from the moment Cambridge scored their third goal just after the hour mark.

Chesham’s starting line-up was unchanged, with Joe Gater continuing alongside George Fenton and Curtis Ujah in central defence. Cambridge started as they meant to go on, and missed a good chance in the fourth minute when James Hall ended a good passing move with a tame shot that was easily saved by Shane Gore. Five minutes later Gore dived to make sure that a long-range effort from Jon Kaye was going wide. Chesham carried little threat early on, although Cambridge keeper Zac Barrett dropped a cross from Toby Little but recovered before Kabongo Tshimanga could pounce. Bruce Wilson then shot high and wide from 30 yards, and Chesham were just starting to put some pressure on when the visitors took the lead. Jon Kaye ran and fired in a shot that Shane Gore parried, George Fenton attempted to head clear but could only nod the ball across goal for Danny Kelly to head in. Shortly before half-time Kaye fired in a shot that Gore needed to turn round the post.

The visitors started the second half on top, and Kaan Fehmi found space on the left but blasted the ball over the bar. Shortly afterwards James Hall was clean through on goal but fluffed his chip which was easily saved by Shane Gore. However two minutes later Hall ran through and set up Danny Kelly who controlled and slotted past Gore for Cambridge’s second. On 62 minutes Hall cut in from the right to work a shooting chance, which he took with a low effort into the corner of the net. Chesham had brought on Ryan Blake, and on 68 minutes his long-range shot came to Kelvin Bossman whose shot on the turn found the net but he was fractionally offside. Two minutes later Blake reached the by-line and squared for Dave Pearce to control and score with a low shot across the goalkeeper. However that was never likely to be anything more than a consolation. Late in the game Adam Murray’s header from a corner hit a defender and was cleared. Four minutes from time the visitors looked sure to score but somehow were kept out until Danny Kelly’s shot hit a defender and flew wide.
