|Samuel Jacobs||1||George Legg||Two days after Chesham’s glory day in Bristol, a revamped line-up eased to a comfortable win in this Berks & Bucks Senior Cup tie.
All the starting eleven on Sunday were rested, although Matt Taylor made a brief appearance as a late substitute. Six of the seven substitutes that day came in, plus Kelvin Bossman (previously cup-tied), Bruce Wilson (returning from suspension), plus Allen Bossman. With Adam Martin cup-tied for this competition as well as the FA Cup, the line-up was completed by two players making their senior debut after impressing in the reserves, Callum Dudrenec and Chris Cutler. Luis Fernandes also made his senior debut as a late substitute. Chesham had the first chance in the seventh minute, when George Casey’s through ball sent Kelvin Bossman clear to shoot but the ball hit keeper Samuel Jacobs and bounced away. After an otherwise uneventful opening, Burnham had their best chance of the half in the 28th minute. Andrew Harewood broke clear down the home right and side-footed past the advancing George Legg but also wide of the post. Chesham took the lead after 36 minutes, when George Casey crossed from the right and Barry Hayles stole in at the near post to score. Two minutes later George Casey’s long shot beat Jacobs, but hit the bar and bounced down on the goal-line but not over it according to the linesman. After 43 minutes Hayles again showed his experience by evading the marking to head in Bruce Wilson’s right-wing corner at the near post and make it 2-0.
Early in the second half Bruce Wilson broke away down the left and shot over the bar, then Allen Bossman crossed to Kelvin Bossman who headed over. Midway through the half Allen Bossman was penalised for shirt-pulling on the edge of the area, and Danny Pilcher halved the deficit with a glancing header from the resulting free kick. However the home side rarely threatened again and Chesham wrapped up the points nine minutes from time. Danny Pilcher was booked for bringing down Allen Bossman on the Chesham right, and George Casey’s free kick was headed in by Barry Hayles to complete his hat-trick. Chesham could have had a fourth late on when Barry Hayles won the ball on the right and set up Kelvin Bossman, but Jacobs parried and Luis Fernandes’ follow-up was scrambled away.
