Man Of The Match
George Fenton
Denham Hinds 1 Shane Gore Two days after the FA Cup game at Bradford, Chesham came back down to earth with their sixth consecutive away league defeat. Chesham were hit by the early loss of Curtis Ujah to injury, but were threatening a comeback midway through the second half when Bedworth scored their third on the break which settled the outcome.

Chesham brought in George Casey, Dave Pearce, Barry Hayles and Adam Martin in place of Ashley Smith, Toby Little, Bruce Wilson and Brad Wadkins, while Kelvin Bossman was suspended. The early stages were largely uneventful as Chesham familiarised themselves with Bedworth’s artificial pitch, having the majority of the possession but creating few moments of any note. Just after the quarter-hour Curtis Ujah and Bedworth’s Jordan Archer were both forced off with injury. Six minutes later Archer’s replacement, Aron Wint, seized on Ash Fongho’s attempted back-pass but took the ball too wide and the chance was gone. Shortly afterwards Elliott Parrott’s cross was cleared as far as Andy Westwood whose shot was deflected over the bar. On 24 minutes Aron Wint gave the home team the lead with a free header from Luke Rowe’s corner. Chesham came back when Dave Pearce’s free kick into the home area was cleared as far as Adam Martin, whose 25-yard shot flew just wide. At the other end Justin Marsden found space on the left but his shot was well saved by Shane Gore diving to his left. Two minutes later George Casey’s ball forward found Ryan Blake who rounded home keeper Denham Hinds but took the ball too wide and could only find the side netting.

Chesham reshuffled at half-time, bringing on Toby Little at left-back, moving George Casey to right-back and playing with just two central defenders. However Chesham’s vulnerability at set pieces was again shown on 51 minutes, when Luke Rowe’s free kick from the right touchline was headed in by the unmarked Daniel Creaney. Chesham came back with a set-piece goal of their own five minutes later, when George Fenton glanced on Matt Taylor’s long throw and keeper Denham Hinds misjudged the flight of the ball which crossed the line at the near post before Richard Wesley hooked clear. Chesham increased the tempo and Barry Hayles broke clear but his shot was deflected just wide. Two minutes later Dave Pearce crossed from the left and Ryan Blake’s header was kept out by a remarkable reaction save by Hinds, who also kept out Sam Youngs’ follow-up. Chesham were now dominating the game and Dave Pearce’s right wing corner found Barry Hayles who headed wide of the far post. However two minutes later a Chesham corner was cleared and the home team broke away, Jamie Ashmore setting up Daniel Creaney who fired past Shane Gore to make it 3-1. Chesham tried to get back in the game, George Fenton heading over after a Dave Pearce corner was cleared and crossed back in by Barry Hayles. Ten minutes from time Denham Hinds spilt an Adam Martin long throw and Barry Hayles turned the ball goalwards but it was cleared off the line. However the home team were on the verge of their first league win in 14 attempts and could have added to their tally late on. Aron Wint seized on a defensive misunderstanding and crossed to Creaney who shot wide of an open goal, Wint then curled a shot which was deflected just wide, then deep in stoppage time sub Lewis Chester broke clear of a tired Chesham defence and shot past the advancing Shane Gore but the ball came back off the post.
