Man of the Match:
|Jake Somerville||1||Shane Gore||After three successive defeats Chesham got back to winning ways in this local derby, marred only by a potentially serious injury to Dave Fotheringham. Two goals in two minutes just after the hour mark transformed the game, as afterwards Slough looked a demoralised team and Chesham could have gone on to win by a much bigger margin. This was Chesham’s seventh consecutive win against Slough in all competitions.
Alex Brown was ruled fit to play, Dave Fotheringham returned after missing the Corby game and Ryan Laville made his first start, with Mark Bell ruled out by the injury sustained on Saturday and Josh Cooper and Ryan Towner dropping to the bench. In a game played in incessant rain Slough made the early running, George Frith having a shot tipped over by Shane Gore and Adam Cornell trying a header from a George Short cross which took a deflection and flew just over. Midway through the half Chesham came close when Ashley Smith crossed and Darren Purse headed wide of the far post, then another Smith cross was turned over the bar by Simon Thomas. Shortly afterwards another Smith cross was touched on by Ryan Blake and Ryan Laville headed just wide of the far post. Slough came back with Alex Witham having a cross-shot pushed away by Shane Gore, then Chesham’s hopes were hit when Dave Fotheringham caught his studs in the turf and collapsed in agony having twisted his knee. Eventually Fotheringham was carried off to be replaced by Ryan Towner, but in the next minute Chesham took the lead. There seemed little danger when the ball was played forward towards the home penalty area, but Ryan Laville stole in behind the defence to prod the ball past the advancing keeper. In stoppage time Ryan Parsons set up a chance for Adam Cornell who mishit the ball harmlessly across goal.
Early in the second half Ryan Laville cut in from the left and unleashed a right-foot shot that had Somerville beaten but clipped the top of the bar. At the other end Adam Cornell missed a free header from a James Dobson corner, then James McClurg touched on a Dobson cross and Cornell seemed sure to score but Shane Gore just got a touch on the ball to turn it wide. Just after the hour mark came the decisive spell of the game, firstly when a neat passing move involving Ashley Smith and Andy Ballard ended with Ryan Blake laying the ball off for Ryan Laville to score his second. Two minutes later Ashley Smith crossed from the right, Simon Thomas won the ball from Reece Yorke and slotted past Somerville to make it 3-0. That ended the game as a contest and Chesham dominated the closing stages. Andy Ballard crossed from the right to Simon Thomas who put a free header over, then Josh Cooper broke through and set up Ryan Blake who was denied by the keeper and Ashley Smith’s follow-up was blocked. Josh Cooper’s shot was tipped away by Somerville, then from the resulting corner Darren Purse stabbed the ball just wide of the far post. Tommy Fletcher broke down the right and crossed to Ryan Blake who controlled and curled a shot wide, then Chesham were awarded a soft penalty when Ryan Blake went down in the area after being challenged by Reece Yorke. However Simon Thomas lifted the spot kick a couple of yards over the bar. There was still time for Ryan Blake to seize on a wayward header from Guy Hollis, only to shoot over.
