Man of the Match:
|Shane Gore||1||Darren Chitty (C)||Chesham got their season back on track by collecting only their second home league victory of the season over a struggling Frome Town side. Chesham dominated the opening exchanges and got early goals, after which, Frome very rarely looked like getting back into the game and Chesham saw out the win comfortably.
Chesham made three changes from the side that drew 2-2 at Cirencester two weeks ago. Andy Ballard was suspended having picked up his fifth booking of the season in the game at Cirencester, so Alex Brown came in at centre back. Ryan Blake and Inih Effiong also came into the XI to form a new look strikeforce, in place of Simon Thomas and Mark Bell who dropped to the bench, with Dave Pearce, who extended his loan from Hemel Hempstead for a further month this week, moved to the right flank. Chesham were on the front foot almost immediately, with Ryan Blake setting up Toby Little whose shot was scrambled behind by Darren Chitty, and from the resulting corner, Alex Brown made the most of his considerable height to head home the opening goal. Chesham then doubled their lead on 14 minutes, when a back pass from Kris Miller was well short of Chitty, and Blake lifted the ball over the advancing Chitty. Chesham continued to press, with Blake firing over after a good team move. Frome did start to threaten after this, with a defensive mix-up by Chesham forcing Shane Gore to come out and foil Thomson, and Frome ought to have halved the deficit when a free-kick from Jon Vance went all the way through to Rhys Baggridge, who lifted the ball over the bar from close range.
However, Chesham resumed their dominance after the break. Dave Pearce worked a shooting chance, but his shot was deflected just out of the reach of Ryan Blake, before Chitty excelled to keep out good efforts from Blake and Ryan Towner. Frome had made little impression in the second period, and Chesham were able to add to their advantage, when a short corner was played out to Dave Pearce, who placed the ball into the corner of the net from just outside the area. The game did slightly peter out after this, with Frome showing little urgency to get back into the match, and Chesham happy to sit on their lead. With just a few minutes left, Pearce was played in down the left hand side and pulled the ball back to Toby Little who fired over from inside the box, before a cross from debutant James Yeboah was put wide by Little. Frome ought to have grabbed a consolation in added time with their only noteworthy effort of the half, with Gore dropping a cross and Mark Ford, on loan from Weymouth, putting it wide of an open goal.
